Now for the good part -- pick up a pick and start hammering them ... they sound killer!!! Big, growly, and true. The B string plays in tune all the way up the neck and has none of the "ring" that I hear and hate in all other DR B strings. They are still a little rough under your fingers though.
If you are tuning to Drop C (most modern Metal and all Dethklok songs to date) I recomend the 55's, but if you are only tuning down 1/2 a step (SRV) the 45's are fine. AS a heads up, to go that big on diameter, the nut will probably have to be filed.
A little destructive testing of the clippings shows they are a single wrap on a hex core, and its almost impossible to get the winding to separate to figure that out. Some players are reporting broken strings, probably do to how long they are before the taper starts. I strongly advise those of you with 4 string Fenders(inline tuners) to steer clear of these strings if you are going to try stringing BEAD. The B string will have the fat part of the string trying to go around your tuning peg, therefore leading to a broken core. If you have a 35" scale, a Warwick, or string thru the body, you will probably be OK.
